Over the years I have tried several weather stations and software packages that allow weather data to be both collected and distributed. The cheaper versions are at best OK but they are unreliable and end up costing more as individual units often fail. Also the cheaper stations do not update data sets quickly enough.
My wife bought me a Davis Vantage Vue weather station and it is a superb bit of kit. Wireless, reliable, robust, solar powered and a joy to use with the various options on collating and distributing the data.

New ISS had to be purchased due to failure of parts rendering all details wildly inaccurate.
I was saddened to learn they are not for repair only renew. I was hoping I would have got more that the 6 years usage before it was terminal.
They have now upgraded the "problematic" battery connections and swapped the recording method of the wind and rain units. "solid state magnetic wind speed and rain sensors, improved internal cables and enhanced battery connection."
I hope to get more that the six years out of this version....we shall see.

Let's be honest to a lot of people recording of the weather is down right geekish but to those of a more data oriented mind weather information is fascinating. I started out with a simple max min thermometer which was the first signs of scary behaviour and before long I was looking for something more up market and a unit that would allow me to view data from indoors. Davis WeatherlinkIP (6555)
I also use the Davis weatherlink IP data logger that not only transfers the data to the computer for instant weather data but also for keeping records of weather over periods of time for my records.
The big advantage to the ip version of the weatherlink is that it plugs directly into my router and constantly uploads my current weather data even if my computer is not switched on. The weather details from my weatherstation on the link above. It is updated every 60 seconds.
